Social Media Piggybacking (Piggyback Marketing) —
When a company’s social media post goes viral, it is only a matter of time before millions of people start talking about it. Seeing an opportunity to leverage the post's popularity, companies can join in to redirect some of the traffic toward their services. This strategy is called piggyback marketing, and it is most popularly used on social media platforms with high interaction volumes between brands and users, such as Twitter.
But piggyback marketing is not always a form of brandjacking. It also happens that a group of companies can collude in piggybacking through their respective campaigns. As a rule, the companies can't compete for this to work and usually operate in totally different markets. This can help a business break into a foreign market or even another industry.
